Pakistan's national animal is the Markhor , a large type of wild goat that is native to the western Himalayas. With horns that can grow to be about a foot long, Markhors are elegant climbers that live in steep, rugged terrain.
The name "Markhor" comes from the Persian words mar and xwar, meaning "snake eater" (an allusion to the snake-like appearance of the Markhor's twisted horns).
